Do I need permits?

There are obviously many factors to look into for this answer, but generally speaking, in most situations, the answer is yes.


Do I need engineering?

The term “engineering” can mean different things.

Structurally, there are three main areas that may need to be looked at by an engineer are: seismic (earthquakes) and wind requirements. vertical loading (snow). & retaining walls. There are options for each of these areas that may be available to not need an engineer.

The other possibility is Civil. This deals with the soils and most residential construction does not require this type of work.


What is an ADU and can I put one on my property?

An ADU is an Accessory Dwelling Unit. The most common size for an ADU is 800 square feet of living space or less. The different jurisdictions have different zones listing the rules for the allowances.

Most importantly, listening to what the customer is looking for. Then finding the style, spacing, and balance that works for the project while being mindful of the customer’s budget and any restrictions.
